Die Hard

1988

Director: John McTiernan

Distributor: Fox Movies

Key Elements: Lines – Story – Symbolism

My Review:

If you’re a guy, you probably love this movie.

There’s not much to say about it. It’s an action movie and it gives plenty of action. Great watch.

But what I find stunning about the story is how John McClane just – won’t – stop. He takes hit after hit and like a machine just keeps going. This is most evident in the last scene when, covered with sweat and blood, missing his shoes, and with no gun in hand, he limps laughing toward the terrorist leader.

Hard-core, man - Just hard-core.

Trailer:

Quotes:

  • "Now I have a machine gun. Ho ho ho."
  • "When Alexander saw the breadth of his domain, he wept for there were no more worlds to conquer." The benefits of a classical education.
  • "Come out to the coast, we'll get together, have a few laughs...”
  • Yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker.
  • You want money? What kind of terrorists are you? …After all your posturing, all your speeches, you're nothing but a common thief.
  • Happy trails, Hans.
